The Neighbor

OK, so I still can't get the neighbor to talk to me. However, I've almost decided that she's not speaking Russian. The problem is that I can't get close enough to really hear what she's saying. She goes silent when I get close enough to potentially make out clear syllables.

In the meantime, I decided to distract myself with some Portuguese lessons. I feel so dorky when speaking Brazilian Portuguese! Why? The only reason I can conjure up is that I have never heard Brazilian Portuguese spoken in real life, so it sounds really artificial when I fumble a few words out. Beside Portuguese, the only other language that I've studied, but never heard in real life, is Esperanto. I felt pretty dorky with Esperanto, too, but that might be for a different reason.

Hello from Wales. Go back to the Esperranto! It's probably a good way to make some useful contacts where you are.

Take a look at www.esperanto.net

Mi ne scias, ĉu vi konsideras la radion esti la "reala vivo" aŭ ne, sed kial vi ne provu foje aŭskulti programon de Radio Polonia ĉe:
http://www.polskieradio.pl/eo/ ?
Ankaŭ mi junaĝe devis atendi longan tempon, ĝis
mi persone renkontis mian unuan parolanton, kvankam mi jam multe korespondis. Bonan ŝancon al vi!

Hi Elisabeth!
... what proves you didn't ever try to make contact.
Use Skype and search for Esperanto and your town or country.

здраствуйтя! я очень люблю язики. Mi tutkore amas lingvoj. Me encantan las idiomas!
Believe it or not I was able to carry on an entire conversation with a bulgarian in esperanto while he was teaching russian and bulgarian, after only 3 months of study! Esperanto is such a great language! It would have been impossible with any other language.

First time I checked out your blog and I read you comparing my mother tongue to Esperanto.
Do practise Portuguese!

"Comparing Esperanto with Portuguese"
Listening to Esperanto, most people would compare it to Italian.
Strangely, if you ask an Italian, he would compare it with Portuguese.
About the vocabulary, many roots are recognizable by Italians, Portuguese, Spanish, etc...
I started (and still update) Esperanto Etymology (and others)
